Exchange of best practices in research support – administrative staff meeting in Wrocław, 10-11 April 2025

On 10 – 11 April 2025, UPWr hosted a meeting of administrative groups responsible for providing research support and administration at SEASONED partner universities. The meeting provided a unique space for our project support experts to exchange best practices, compare internal processes and explore opportunities for further collaboration on joint projects in the frame of Horizon Europe.

Event Highlights

The groups discussed the latest developments at their respective institutions related to research projects focusing on the scale of applications submitted versus the amount of funding awarded. Key topics included supporting researchers in dealing with Ethics aspects, implementing the HR Excellence in Research strategy, and using IT tools to identify research calls and build consortia. The workshop on the WIDERA part of Horizon Europe had everyone fully engaged, as they practised turning call text information into compelling concepts for collaborative projects.

Hybrid formula

A wide range of topics was covered, thanks in part to the event’s hybrid format. The Head of the Office for Responsible Research at UMH, Alberto Pastor Campos, joined online to share insights into how his office supports researchers in the areas of Research Integrity and Ethics. Additionally, colleagues from SDU RIO, the central project support unit — Delia Puzzovio and Dusan Misevic — contributed with an online presentation on their unique journey in developing IT tools specifically designed to support call identification and partner search for Horizon Europe and other international calls.

Understanding Widening

The second day was fully dedicated to the WIDERA part of Horizon Europe, with a focus on practising how to use information from the call text to develop successful concepts for collaborative projects. The insightful workshop was led by Dr Karina Barentseva, the National Contact Point expert for the Widening part of Horizon Europe. After presenting the upcoming calls for 2025 – 2027, Dr Barentseva led practical exercises that gave the participants the chance to draft project concepts and plan consortium composition in line with the expected impacts as specified in the call text. Everyone agreed that the programme offers significant potential to continue the collaboration that began with SEASONED.
